The FHFA Office of Inspector General (FHFA-OIG) is responsible for, among other things, conducting audits, investigations, and other activities of the programs and operations of FHFA, and recommending polices that promote economy and efficiency in the administration of, and prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse in, FHFA's programs and operations.
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will serve as the focal point within FHFA-OIG for media relations and communications activities.
Summary
The FHFA Office of Inspector General (FHFA-OIG) is responsible for, among other things, conducting audits, investigations, and other activities of the programs and operations of FHFA, and recommending polices that promote economy and efficiency in the administration of, and prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse in, FHFA's programs and operations.
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will serve as the focal point within FHFA-OIG for media relations and communications activities.
Create an integrated communications strategy, develop corresponding plans for the public affairs function, and recommend and execute projects within that plan.
Analyze and select appropriate written, oral, and/or audio-visual communication methods to maximize effectiveness in a given situation or initiative.
Build and maintain productive working relationships with the media, as well as other individuals and groups.
Serve as content and technical resource for the public website and be responsible for stimulating interest in the use of networks and in new directions that may enhance information availability and management.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

Specialized experience for the EL-14 (GS-14) is described as one year of experience at the EL-13 (GS-13) level in Federal Service, or equivalent, which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes ALL of the following:
- Experience performing administrative, technical, communications, or project management work in order to plan and execute an organization's operations; AND
- Experience developing, implementing, and executing an internal and external public affairs and social media communications strategy; AND
- Experience advancing research issues and priorities of interest via press, official correspondence, social media platforms, and other online communication channels, as well as building templates, standards, tools, and social media guidelines AND
-Experience designing, updating, and maintaining website contents.
Specialized experience for the EL-13 (GS-13) is described as one year of experience at the EL-12 (GS-12) level in Federal Service, or equivalent, that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes ALL of the following:
- Experience assisting in the development and implementation of internal and external public affairs and social media communications strategy; AND
- Experience researching issues and priorities of interest via press, official correspondence, social media platforms, and other online communication channels, as well as building templates, standards, tools, and social media guidelines AND
- Experience with website design and maintenance.
Ethics: FHFA-OIG employees are subject to government-wide ethical standards of conduct, financial disclosure requirements, and post-employment prohibitions. In addition, certain FHFA-OIG employees are prohibited from accepting compensation from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for a two-year period after terminating employment with FHFA-OIG.
