Duties

Help
  • Serves as Military Contingency Operations Planner for the Organization's support to Combatant Commands, Army Service Component Commands, and interagency planning teams.
  • Leads the battle-staff in order to develop written USACE Operations Orders (OPORDS) to support Operation plans (OPLANS).
  • Responsible for planning future operations that occurs within the 24 - 96 hour time frame for military and civil contingency operations.
  • Plans operations within the current phase and accomplishes the final coordination of plans developed by the G37.
  • Evaluates plans and recommends modification; further develops data into operation orders (OPORD), fragmentary orders (FRAGORD), or warning orders (WARNORD).
  • Maintains cognizance of readiness status of major subordinate commands.
  • Monitors worldwide contingencies; receives and analyzes reports, provides recommendations, disseminated information and leads crisis action planning.
  • Must be proficient in current operation activities with special emphasis on the Stafford Act and PL 84-99 responses.
  • Participates in the development of command planning guidance, standard operating procedures and doctrine.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires you must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance and is designated non-critical sensitive as defined in DoD 5200.2-R.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019, requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • This position is designated as Key. The employee is required to remain accessible during duty and non-duty hours, via telephonic communications systems to respond to emergency operation activities.
  • Employee may be required to perform TDY approximately 10% of the time away from home station, which may include overnight travel, with short notice and for extended periods. Travel by boat, plane, helicopter, train, or car may be required.
  • Travel during natural disasters and military contingencies may be subject to hazards. Under crisis operations, expanded work hours, 7-day work week, and extended duty days may be required.
  • NOTE: Stress is inherent in the nature of work. Potential high noise levels during activation exercises, many short-suspense actions, and pressures of time from nearly all contacts, contribute to intense demands on the incumbent.

Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 13 Months, if the candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
