The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC, is an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of natural gas, oil, and electricity. FERC also regulates natural gas and hydropower projects. As part of our goal, we are seeking highly skilled individuals to assist in carrying out the mission of this agency. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission assists consumers in obtaining reliable, efficient and sustainable energy services at a reasonable cost through appropriate regulatory and market means.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Division of Investigations, within the Office of Enforcement, is responsible for the enforcement of the Commission’s statutes, orders, and rules governing the nation’s wholesale natural gas and electric markets, including the Commission’s Anti-Manipulation Rule, to ensure fair and competitive markets. We are seeking mid-level and senior-level attorneys to help us accomplish this mission. Qualified applicants must have either, or both, significant experience in energy law and the energy industry or significant investigative and litigation experience. Senior attorneys must have substantial energy law experience and/or substantial litigation experience (either white collar crime or complex business litigation) and first-chair trial experience or multiple second-chair trial experience. Mid-level attorneys must have significant energy law experience and/or significant hands-on investigation and litigation experience.

The applicant must be a member in good standing with a recognized bar. Salary range is $122,530 - $159,286 at the GS-14 level and $144,128 - $172,500 at the GS-15 level commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

This position is included in the Bargaining Unit.

You must be a graduate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. It is your responsibility to provide adequate proof that you meet the above educational requirements. Inadequate or illegible information could result in non-qualification and loss of consideration.

You must be a member in good standing of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico bar. You must be a US Citizen. All job offers are contingent upon successful completion and adjudication of a background investigation.

The United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has not issued qualification standards for Attorney positions. Both the quality and the amount of experience determine the qualifications for Attorneys. All Attorney positions have a minimum requirement of completing a J.D. or LL.B. from an accredited college or university, and possessing an active bar membership and specialized experience for this position.

While this position offers potential promotion, the agency is not making a commitment and is not obligated to provide future promotions to you if you are selected. Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval. If you are selected at a grade lower than the highest shown in this listing, you will be placed under a career development plan and can be non-competitively promoted when you successfully complete the requirements for the higher grade.
