Duties

Help

Incumbent serves as an IT Specialist evaluating, developing, and implementing software using programming languages and command language. Generates new programs and/or modifies existing programs using programming and database management system languages.

Information Technology Specialists are valued members of our team. As an IT Specialist, you will serve as an information technology programmer providing technical guidance in designing, coding, processing, testing, installing, and maintaining computer processes needed to evaluate and manage all phases of regional SSA management/administrative operations via computer systems.

Qualifications

If you are using experience to qualify, you must have:

For GS-12: 52 weeks (one year) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or above independently performing the following tasks: (1) Programming Web based applications in ASP.NET, C# and Microsoft SQL Server, use of HTML, Visual Basic, and JavaScript; (2) Reviewing proposals for major projects and application programming requests and determining feasibility of such projects; AND (3) Performing studies and advising management on the merits of proposed applications; AND (4) Developing procedures and techniques to perform security and 508 audits on a variety of application development activities; AND (5) Applying standard practices employed by programmers in order to anticipate programming difficulties in alternate design strategies.

Note: Part-time work is prorated in crediting experience (e.g., if you work 20 hours per week for a 12-month period), you will be credited with 6 months of experience.

In addition to the experience, to qualify for the 2210 IT Specialist series, applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Eligibility is based on your responses to questions in the online questionnaire.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. Therefore, to the extent a Federal job announcement includes the requirement that applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 pursuant to Executive Order 14043, that requirement does not currently apply. Federal agencies may request information regarding the vaccination status of selected applicants for the purposes of implementing other workplace safety protocols, such as protocols related to masking, physical distancing, testing, travel, and quarantine.
