Duties

At the full performance level, major duties include:

  • Develops messaging and broad communications strategies for a variety of internal and external audiences.
  • Works with OCOM staff and agency subject matter experts to write and edit material, such as content for fdic.gov, video scripts, brochures and pamphlets, various reports, social media, Financial Institution Letters, and press releases.
  • Works with OCOM staff and agency subject matter experts to write and edit material for inclusion in internal FDIC publications, such as the employee newsletters, global emails, and website.
  • Acts as copy editor and production editor for FDIC publications, such as the newsletter, booklets, reports, etc.
  • Proofreads and edits material for various communications channels to ensure accuracy of final products and to reach a wide and varied audience.
  • Gathers information to be used in writing assignments. On major projects, such as the newsletter, and those that involve several offices, works in collaboration with members of various writing groups and assists with consolidating working drafts and preparing a unified product.
  • Evaluates how available information can best be used to meet agency objectives, helps identify opportunities for developing new information, and recommends strategies for presenting information.
  • Conducts writing and editing of scripts for prerecorded and live events, including speeches and videos.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. CG-11: To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 9 grade level or above in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is defined as experience writing and editing communications for a variety of documents and publications, such as newsletters, articles, reports, video scripts, brochures and pamphlets, web content and/or social media; reviewing written documents for accuracy and ensuring they meet current organizational style, policies, and practices.

OR Education - a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

OR a Combination of graduate level education as described above, and the specialized experience as described below, that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

CG-12: To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 11 grade level or above in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is defined as experience writing and editing communications for a variety of documents and publications, such as newsletters, articles, reports, video scripts, brochures and pamphlets, web content and/or social media; reviewing written documents for accuracy and ensuring they meet current organizational style, policies, and practice; and researching and analyzing information to develop documents and publications.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Within these categories, candidates eligible for veterans’ preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans.

1. Knowledge of the methods of communicating through social media channels, including developing targeted content and reviewing graphics.

2. Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) Style guide to create and edit written content for a variety of documents and publications.

3. Skill in reviewing and editing written products.

4. Knowledge of the methods and techniques of publications production to assist with the preparation and dissemination of official publications.

5. Ability to research and obtain information on topics and issues applicable to the agency mission. 

6. Skill in communicating orally with persons at all levels of the agency.
