Summary

This position is located in the Office of Visitor Experience and Evaluation (DD-VE), in the Office of the Deputy Director. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of administrative and technical duties for the Visitor Experience Volunteer Program. This program manages more than 200 volunteers and serves tens of thousands of museum visitors.

Duties

Help

As the Gallery Support Specialist, you will:

  • Oversee daily appearance and operation of DD-VE volunteer program contact areas. Ensure DD-VE volunteers have current information regarding exhibitions, programs, events, Gallery policies, procedures, etc.
  • Provide administrative, analytical, and evaluative support to the Visitor Experience Volunteer Program.

  • Plan and implements logistics for numerous programs and events, manages scheduling systems and other Gallery technology.
  • Assist with daily operations and interdepartmental communication; act to ensure visitors and members are well served and any issues are resolved appropriately.
  • Work with Visitor Experience staff to provide coaching and work direction to volunteers, and to develop and maintain training programs for DD-VE Volunteers.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-301-7. A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. For this position, specialized experience is at least 1 year of general experience as a GS-7, managing daily service operations for an organization where staff and visitor experience are the focal point in the organization’s operations.

Those applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be evaluated against these factors to determine the best-qualified candidates.

  1. Comprehensive knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations carried out by volunteers in the Gallery’s Visitor Experience Volunteer Program.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of the application of qualitative/quantitative methods and the ability to perform analyses and evaluate information on daily information of volunteer service and solve administrative, communication, and other problems sufficient to meet administrative and business needs.

  3. Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing museum-based volunteer programs.

Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria:

The position requires standing for extended periods of time, up to 2½ hours without a break, both inside the Gallery and outside in the Sculpture Garden.  Incumbent will be required to ascend and descend stairs. Lifting of visitor bags or packages that may weigh up to 20 lbs. may be required.  Position requires wearing of a radio earpiece and carrying a portable radio, for up to an entire shift.

 "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration under merit promotion procedures.
