Assists in selecting the methodology, techniques and procedures to be used to meet assignment objectives. This generally includes the use of standardized audit techniques, including sampling techniques, data analysis, quantitative methods, financial analysis, or a combination of these techniques, as appropriate.
Performs research to gather background information about the program and identify relevant criteria.
Reviews documents provided by or prepared by program officials to ascertain accuracy and completeness of information provided and/or to test compliance with program controls.
Gathers, analyzes, and interprets data to support conclusions and recommendations and determines the evidence that will be used to support conclusions and recommendations.
Builds and maintains constructive working relationships based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to the OIG’s mission, values and goals.
Prepares written summaries and assignment documentation to support work performed including documenting interviews, findings, conclusions, and recommendations in accordance with standards and OIG policies and procedures.
Participates in writing the report and ensures that the report conclusion addresses the objective, findings are logically structured, recommendations are meaningful and actionable, and overall tone is appropriate.
Participates in site visits, conferences, briefings, interviews, and other meetings with FDIC, financial institution representatives and OIG management. management.

Basic Requirements for Performance Auditors:
Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.
OR
Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. Education:
CG-07: At least one full year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement directly related to this position.
CG-09: At least two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master’s degree, master’s, or equivalent graduate degree directly related to this position.
Specialized Experience:
CG-07: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in responsibility and scope to the grade 05 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that demonstrates a basic knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, concepts and methods and an ability to conduct audits, evaluations, and review assignments.
CG-09: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in responsibility and scope to the grade 07 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience demonstrating a professional knowledge of and skill in applying accounting and auditing concepts, principles, and methods sufficient to work independently using conventional procedures and practices that apply to most situations encountered.
