Duties

Help
  • Analyze archeological data for situations where precedents are not fully applicable to prepare reports.
  • Compile information to report the nature and extent of known cultural resources.
  • Monitor archeological projects to ensure sufficiency of field work.
  • Review proposed unit projects to determine cultural resources.
  • Monitor work assignments to ensure work is completed safely, within time constraints and following established standards and procedures.
  • Adapt ground search strategies to meet specific project requirements.
  • Apply scientific methods to land surveys to determine sites of archeological interest.
  • Prepare reports and site forms to document cultural resource inventories.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-07 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-06); OR One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as: Archeology or Anthropology) OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

Examples of specialized experience are: Prepares Cultural Resource Inventory reports and site forms; Enters site and inventory information into databases and onto geographic information system (GIS) maps; Assists in the preparation of archeological and historical information to create interpretive materials for display and dissemination; Researches reference materials such as State and National Register files, historic documents, archeological reports, maps and aerial photos, and interviews source individuals concerning project areas.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This announcement may be used to fill positions with a seasonal work schedule where full-time work is guaranteed for 18 pay periods and when not working, you will be placed in non-pay/non-duty status.
