Summary

Serves as a Data Analyst in the Business Intelligence and Analytics Division (BIAD), Office of Information Technology (OIT), Office of the Inspector General. The incumbent develops, manages and maintains analytics systems to produce data driven insight for use in operational and strategic decision making. The incumbent will also perform a broad range of assignments involving major projects, studies, and analyses of OIG's auditing, investigative, legal, and administrative business activities.

Duties

Help
  • Identify trends, risks, significance, and appropriate solutions for complex issues that involve major areas of uncertainty in approach, methodology, or interpretation.
  • Designs, develops, synthesizes, and displays quantitative data using interactive reports, dashboards, and visualizations (e.g., Excel, SAS, SQL, Python, MicroStrategy, Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Develops and maintains a wide range of data products such as business intelligence reports, data visualizations, infographics, etc.
  • Interacts with and maintains effective working relationships with individuals, business stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand problems and needs
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems; weigh relevance and accuracy of information; generate and evaluates alternative solutions; and make recommendations.
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and tools of data management, such as modeling techniques, data backup, data recovery, data dictionaries, data warehousing, data mining, data archiving, data disposal, and data standardization processes.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS 12 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such specialized experience identifying trends, risks, significance, and appropriate solutions for complex issues that involve major areas of uncertainty in approach, methodology, or interpretation. Utilizes expertise to extract, compile, and analyze data in a variety of formats to develop crucial and meaningful programmatic insights for presentation to and utilization by senior management officials.

Position to be filled under the provisions of the Management Officials Promotion Plan. The best-qualified list for this vacancy may be used to fill the same or similar positions in a component(s) under the same Deputy Commissioner. COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If selected, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 no later than November 22, 2021 and submit documentation of vaccination by November 23, 2021 OR shortly after appointment or onboarding with SSA, if this occurs after November 22, 2021. LOCALITY PAY: Salary will be set in accordance with locality pay provisions. Candidates currently receiving a higher locality pay than the office applied for are advised that should they be selected, they will lose entitlement to the higher locality pay.

OTHER NOTES:
Selected employee is subject to the completion of a 1-year probationary period for a supervisory position unless the employee served in such a position before August 11, 1979, or has completed one.

This position is eligible for telework.

Relocation expenses will not be paid.

This is a non-critical sensitive position. The selected employee will be required to complete a Standard Form 86, Questionnaire for Sensitive Positions, in order to have the appropriate investigation conducted, unless the employee has been previously certified eligible to occupy a position at this level.

  • Ability to develop networks and build alliances; collaborate across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals. (30 points)
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools used for risk assessment and mitigation, including assessment of failures and their consequences. (30 points)
