Duties

Help
  • Develop, plan and manage rangeland management projects and studies to establish and maintain compliance with applicable State and Federal regulations.
  • Provide technical analysis and research to support recommendations regarding land rehabilitation management requirements and activities.
  • Utilize computer software to design land rehabilitation Projects.
  • Provide on-site technical advice at project locations to ensure that mitigation efforts meet the intent of the projects and efforts.
  • Oversee land rehabilitation management projects to ensure repair and maintenance projects are approved by the range operations staff, Directorate of Public Works, natural and cultural resources management staff for compliance with regulations.
  • Provide recommendations to reconcile training requirements with natural/cultural resources concerns and optimize training land management usage decisions.

  • Incumbent must obtain/maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain/maintain a license to operate a government 4x4 vehicle or other equipment as required while inspecting Range and training areas.
  • Incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Position may require the participation in immediate-need projects that involve extended work hours.
  • Incumbent must satisfactorily pass pre-employment and periodic annual physical exams.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations and SOP-s
  • Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous and toxic substances and environment during inspections of firing ranges and training areas.
  • Incumbent must possess or obtain State of Colorado Soil Erosion Inspector Certification, or similar erosion control installation and inspection certification.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

1. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in range management; or a related discipline that included at least 42 semester hours in a combination of the plant, animal, and soil sciences, and natural resources management, as follows:

Range Management -- At least 18 semester hours of course work in range management, including courses in such areas as basic principles of range management, range plants, range ecology, range inventories and studies, range improvements, and ranch or rangeland planning.

Directly Related Plant, Animal, and Soil Sciences -- At least 15 semester hours of directly related courses in the plant, animal, and soil sciences, including at least one course in each of these three scientific areas, i.e., plant, animal, and soil sciences. Courses in such areas as plant taxonomy, plant physiology, plant ecology, animal nutrition, livestock production, and soil morphology or soil classification are acceptable.

Related Resource Management Studies -- At least 9 semester hours of course work in related resource management subjects, including courses in such areas as wildlife management, watershed management, natural resource or agricultural economics, forestry, agronomy, forages, and outdoor recreation management.

OR

2. Combination of education and experience -- at least 42 semester hours of course work in the combination of plant, animal, and soil sciences and natural resources management shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the requirements described above, the following specialized experience is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes1 ;)assessing land resources to determine ability to support activities or to recommend rehabilitation strategies,2;) Providing technical input on land rehabilitation to develop environmental reports, plans and/or impact statements, and 3 ;) Assisting with the design of land management projects to maintenance sustain lands for future continued use in an environmentally sound manner. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

About the Position: Serves as the coordinator of the installation Land Rehabilitation Area Management (LRAM) program for Fort Carson and Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site. The purpose of the LRAM Program is to determine whether Fort Carson training land resources are in a condition to support military training and to make recommendations on when, how, and where to rehabilitate damaged training land.
