Help

The Office of Congressional and Public Affairs communicates with Congress, news media and the general public about the OIG’s work, including responding to inquiries and requests. OCPA edits, publishes online and disseminates OIG reports and correspondence. This office also is responsible for managing the OIG’s website and social media platforms, creating multimedia products, operating the OIG’s main phone line and email inbox, and handling internal communications.

Responsibilities

As a Writer-Editor, you are responsible for:

  • Assists audit, evaluation, congressional and public affairs, and other staff in developing and drafting reports, and prepares summaries for publication that are factual and present clear meaning to the intended audience(s);
  • Assists in preparing the Semiannual Report to Congress for submittal, including developing content, overseeing production and attending to logistics;
  • Reviews and analyzes reports and other material for logic and conformance with fundamental principles of effective writing;
  • Serves as an advisor to audit, evaluation, and congressional and public affairs teams at Headquarters and field divisions during the early stages of audits, evaluations, and congressional and public affairs efforts to ensure quality related to communication of the message;
  • Participates in progress reviews and other key team meetings to gain information on the subject matter and provide early technical assistance on editing standards and communication issues.

This is a Public Trust Position. Employment in this position requires a background investigation. Upon appointment, you will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450. You will need to provide the information annually.  

Depending on your status, this position may require serving a 1-year probationary period.

Qualifications

All applicants must have 1 year equivalent to the next lower grade level.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

GS-13: Experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience includes utilizing comprehensive knowledge and skill in writing, editing, research techniques and methods to develop and prepare authoritative data on the programs; developing written products that articulate, interpret and explain highly complex and controversial programs; using applied knowledge of techniques, methods, practices, and procedures to apply innovative approaches, advanced techniques and sound judgment to manage a variety of sensitive, high-profile, complex, and time-critical issues; and briefing and consulting with an agency or organization's senior leaders on complex issues and a variety of mission critical subject matters and to develop various written products.

This position does not have a mandatory education requirement.  There is no substitution for specialized experience at this grade level.
