Duties

As a Program Assistant, GS-0344-06, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Performs technical and clerical work in support of all Region programs. Ability to maintain automated systems and databases.
  • Data manipulation and verification, interaction with the information technology staff.
  • Management of correspondence and personnel files related to uncompensated appointments and removals in the Integrated Mobilization Information System (IMIS) database.
  • Researches, assembles and prepares recurring and special reports, news releases, and briefing material.
  • Prepares correspondence, memoranda, policy and guidance from draft to final form.
  • Prepares materials and all associated materials for Region conferences and New Officer / State Director training sessions.
  • Assists with documents and reports for military and civilian personnel including travel orders, recommendations, and civilian performance standards and evaluations.
  • Maintains computerized automated systems.
  • Prepares information and files and records information.
  • Knowledge of clerical functions, filing, typing, answering telephones and other clerical responsibilities.
  • Assists in arrangements for training sessions, including notifications, schedules of attendance and all support to the Trainer and the training attendees.
  • Prepares orientation/welcome packets for all new employees and relevant correspondence required by the Region.
  • Receives and processes incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Establishes and maintains a control system on actions and suspense items and monitors the system for follow-up and timely completion.
  • Prepares independent responses, orally and written, in areas of responsibility, provides data and information, as requested, and keeps supervisor advised of activities.

Qualifications

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). You must include an SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one) that supports meeting this requirement with your application package.

All qualification requirements must be met by midnight (Eastern Time) on the closing date of this vacancy announcement.

You may qualify at the GS-6 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualifications. Qualifying experience for GS-6 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-5 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes ability to perform technical and clerical work in support of all Region programs. Ability to maintain automated systems.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

If education is a basic requirement or you are qualifying all or in part based on your education, you must submit transcripts (official or unofficial). Failure to submit transcripts may result in an ineligible rating.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program.
