Duties

Help
  • Perform investigative studies involving the development or application of methodologies, which extend beyond the present state of the art or imaginative approaches.
  • Responsible for working on tasks that are unique and very difficult to define, requiring unconventional approaches and the application and adaptation of sophisticated analytical techniques.
  • Develop, present and defend proposals for initiation of additional studies or analyses to meet overall objectives or to address problems or issues identified during original studies.
  • Provide advice and guidance concerning policies, work methods, milestones, and assists team in appropriate problem solving methods.

  • Selectees must meet position requirements for Advanced certification (formerly Level III) in the Acquisition Career Field Life Cycle Logistics within 24 months of entrance on duty.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Operational Research Analyst: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in operations research; or a degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

To qualify for the GS-11 level, all applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-09).Specialized experience is defined as: Assisting in applying a wide variety of standard principles, theories, techniques and practices of quantitative and statistical analysis; researching complex simulations to evaluate the impact of new technologies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Operations Research. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts)-OR- Combination of Graduate Education and Experience: Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

To qualify for the GS-12 level, all applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11).Specialized experience is defined as: researching comprehensive methodological studies for operational research; 2) Applying analytical techniques and methodologies in mathematics, statistics, econometrics, and/or operations research for defining problems; 3) Preparing written reports and/or oral presentations regarding study findings and conclusions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Operations Research.(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts)OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

To qualify for the GS-13 level, all applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-12) Specialized experience is defined as: Experience with operations research, mathematics, statistics, and/or engineering techniques; experience with innovative scientific and mathematical approaches to the analysis of financial, contracting, material and/or logistics systems problem. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).




Education
