Undergraduate students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited institution and have earned at least 90 credit hours. •Graduate students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited institution.
You will elect at the time of your application to participate in either a law enforcement or non-law enforcement internship.
Law Enforcement Internship: Designed for students who are interested in a career in law enforcement, you will be assigned a mentor from one of the FLETC training divisions. Half of your time will be spent auditing basic or advanced training programs. The remaining half of your time will be spent working on meaningful training-related research and writing projects under the guidance of your mentor.
Non-Law Enforcement Internship: Designed for students who have a desire to work in the public sector. Under the guidance of a mentor, you will receive on-the-job experience in a professional work environment focused on the FLETC's business fields. In addition, you will receive opportunities to audit the FLETC's numerous basic or advanced training programs.
Participate as a student volunteer in a virtual environment, utilizing your own internet connection and personal electronic devices and email.

To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, DHS requires every student volunteer to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation for suitability as a condition of placement into the program. This will include a credit check after a tentative offer is given, a review of financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.
Applicants from Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) are highly encouraged to apply.
You must maintain student eligibility and enrollment for the duration of the internship.
This internship does not offer conversion to permanent employment.
You will be required to complete the FLETC Student Volunteer Service Agreement and DHS Form 1000-6 Non-Disclosure Agreement if you are selected.
FLETC reserves the right to discontinue the College Intern Program (CIP) at any time for any reason.
Student volunteers are not considered Federal employees for any purposes other than compensation for on-the-job injuries and tort claims. Additionally, student volunteers are not entitled to remuneration or benefits, nor is their volunteer service creditable for leave or any other employee benefit.

A narrative essay no more than two single- or double-spaced pages that sets forth: why you are interested in the FLETC College Intern Program; your career motivations and goals; the source of inspiration for your career motivation and goals; the skills that you would bring to the FLETC if you were selected as an intern; and the type of internship (i.e., Law Enforcement or Non-Law Enforcement) you would like to serve during your internship.
4. A nomination letter from a school official (e.g., a faculty member or advisor, intern coordinator, or departmental chairman) with personal knowledge of you. The nomination letter should contain the reasons for nominating you for an internship at the FLETC (e.g., your scholastic abilities, demonstrated leadership potential, honors, awards, recognitions, etc.). The letter must be on official letterhead in order to be considered valid.
5.If selected, you may be asked to voluntarily submit documentation of proof of COVID-19 vaccination for the purposes of implementing FLETC workplace safety protocols, such as protocols related to masking, physical distancing, testing, travel, and quarantine.
To ensure compliance with an applicable preliminary nationwide injunction, which may be supplemented, modified, or vacated, depending on the course of ongoing litigation, the Federal Government will take no action to implement or enforce the COVID-19 vaccination requirement pursuant to Executive Order 14043 on Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees.
Due to COVID-19, the component is currently in an expanded telework posture. Therefore, if selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework.
