This position is located in the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation's (PBGC). Policy, Research, and Analysis Department (PRAD).
As part of a dynamic team of Economists and Actuaries, you will serve as an expert Economist and conduct analyses and research in support of complex policy discussions and decisions affecting PBGC and PBGC-insured pensions, addresses concerns of outside interests, and assist with the collection and validation of data from various sources.
Summary
This position is located in the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation's (PBGC). Policy, Research, and Analysis Department (PRAD).
As part of a dynamic team of Economists and Actuaries, you will serve as an expert Economist and conduct analyses and research in support of complex policy discussions and decisions affecting PBGC and PBGC-insured pensions, addresses concerns of outside interests, and assist with the collection and validation of data from various sources.
Assist in developing, organizing, and integrating economic and statistical data from varied sources, in a manner conducive to immediate electronic retrieval to support PBGC positions on legislative proposals, development of legislative initiatives, or assist in ensuring prompt and well formulated responses to Congressional or Administration inquiries.
Assist with projects addressing retirement plan trends, new PBGC initiatives and their economic implications, as well as providing input and data appearing in PBGC’s annual report, announcements, and press releases.
Assist with complex and crucial research and analyses are conducted and prepared regarding both PBGC-focused topics, as well as policy initiatives that may encompass broader retirement income issues.
Assist in the participation of meetings with senior level PBGC officials, Congressional staff, other federal agencies, and members of the pension community to provide economic and pension plan analysis, data, and statistics.

Qualifications
All qualification and eligibility requirements must be met by the announcement closing date.
You may start at the GS-12 grade level with an annual salary of $89,834, if you meet the following minimum qualification requirements in addition to the education requirement below.
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the private sector conducting economic and financial research, studies, and analyses related to pension benefits. Examples may include: maintaining and enhancing computer-based forecasting models, pension plan database management and analysis.
You may start at the GS-13 grade level with an annual salary of $106,823, if you meet the following minimum qualification requirements in addition to the education requirement below.
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the private sector conducting economic and financial research, studies, and analyses related to pension benefits. Examples may include: relevant Internal Revenue Code, and policy issues related to defined benefit plan, financial accounting and disclosure.
** Experience with stochastic projection models, familiarity with econometrics relating to defined benefit pension plans, expert research skills and database management/analysis is highly desirable.
Education
In order to qualify for GS-0110 series, you must have one of the following:
A. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus experience or additional education.
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet these criteria, see www.ed.gov.
