Duties

Help
  • You will assist in scheduling and coordinating arrangements for all interments and inurnments that includes, but is not limited to, coordinating externally with service families with regard to cemetery eligibility and service scheduling.
  • You will coordinate events by contacting and scheduling with the appropriate Chaplain, Music Department, Public Works Department, Base Security, Base Operations, Public Affairs office, Alumni Association, and the Visitors Center.
  • You will support the planning and oversight of the cemetery's maintenance by developing work requests and inspecting the grounds for appearance, noting deficiencies and determining repair work required.
  • You will assist in the planning and execution of interments, inurnments, and memorial services and share responsibility in leading these services with the Cemetery Administrator on a case-by-case basis, or during the absence of the Administrator.
  • You will estimate cemetery budget requirements and execute and control established spending plans for each fiscal year for both appropriated and non-appropriated funds.
  • You will perform contract oversight for cemetery operations, maintenance, and construction projects and ensures contractor payment is authorized for acceptable work.
  • You will be responsible for the database authorizing the non-DoD next of kin installation access passes to visit the resting places of loved ones in the Naval Academy cemetery and/or columbarium.

  • Field work outside of the office may include working in inclement or adverse weather conditions and may require moving /lifting urns or niche covers weighing as much as 30 pounds.
  • Incumbent must often transit the Naval Academy campus in support of various memorial affairs events at the Chapel, cemetery and columbarium.

Qualifications

GS-09 Specialized Experience Requirements:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Serving as a cemetery administrator supporting day-to-day administration and execution of the Memorial Affairs program; 2) Utilizing knowledge of military and government protocol to coordinate and execute funerals, memorials, or public affairs events; 3) Providing oversight of the maintenance and repair of grounds and/or facilities; and 4) Estimating budget requirements and establishing spending plans.

GS-07 Specialized Experience Requirements:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing administrative support for a Memorial Affairs program; 2) Assisting in scheduling and coordinating funerals, services, ceremonies or public events; 3) Supporting facility and/or ground maintenance functions; and 4) Utilizing database programs to input and maintain records.

Have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR
LL.B. or J.D.,if related.

Applicants that do not meet the GS-07 specialized experience may qualify with education or a combination of experience and education as listed below. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

Have 1 full year of graduate level education OR Have completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement.
