This position is located on a Forest Service unit and has responsibility for on-the-ground management of the OHV program and assists with administration of a variety of special use permits.

Duties

  • Duties are listed at the full performance level.
  • Communicate to off-highway vehicle users of resource damages when illegal use occurs.
  • Issue notices of field violations by collecting evidence, conducting incident investigations, and writing case report when needed.
  • Coordinate maintenance and construction activities of developed and dispersed recreation sites.
  • Plan reconstruction of Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV) trails and facilities using the proper techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Monitor the condition of recreation facilities and sites.
  • Request immediate corrective action where public health and safety are involved.
  • Correct any deficiencies within the approved operating plan.
  • Monitor contracted operations for compliance with contract provisions.
  • Patrols Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV) use areas to ensure areas are operated, used and maintained in accordance with the recreation plan and other appropriate planning documents
  • Implements and manages the unit?s OHV recreation program, including but not limited to, identifying and conducting maintenance and reconstruction of OHV routes.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-05: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. Examples include: Provided information on resource management practices and recreation regulations, opportunities, and restrictions; Ensured recreation areas and trails were maintained following standards; Performed crew-based forestry-related support work, such as for recreation or trail maintenance projects;

OR

a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources, outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science (no more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable);

OR

combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

For the GS-06. You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. Examples include: Provided input for special recreation permits for compliance to permit stipulations; Developed restoration projects and participated in recreation plan development; Assisted in the development of an Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) program; Patrolled OHV use areas to ensure areas are operated, used, and maintained following the recreation plan.

For the GS-06, there is no substitution of education for this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
