Duties

Help

You will manage an office of three attorneys and one administrative assistant and provide supervision, mentoring, oversight and direction to five additional attorneys whom provide the legal services required to support Information and Intelligence Law issues presented by CG missions and operations.

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Serving as Deputy Office Chief and supervising the daily operations of the Office to include delineating areas of responsibility and assigning work.
  • Providing advice on the function and operation of the CG intelligence program, specifically the function of the CG intelligence element as governed by laws, regulations, intelligence community directives, and policies.
  • Providing advice and assist in developing policy on the interface between the CG national intelligence element and the CG law enforcement and regulatory information collection programs.
  • Serving as CG liaison with the privacy, civil liberty, and legal components of intelligence community organizations and liaison with federal law enforcement and regulatory agencies on information sharing, including review of memorandums of agreement.
  • Serving as an expert on all legal and factual matters concerning intelligence and national security law where complex and difficult legal and policy questions or factual issues are involved. 
  • Providing legal advice in the areas of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Privacy Act (PA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Security Classification, and information release strategy.

Qualifications

All Candidates must possess a J.D. or LL.B degree from an accredited law school;

AND

Must be a member in good standing of the appropriate licensing authority of any state, territory of the United States, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or District of Columbia bar.

AND

To qualify for the GS-15 level position, must: have successfully completed at least one full year of professional legal experience as a practicing attorney equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service, as reflected in the nature and complexity of case work and legal issues for which responsible, the level of responsibility exercised, and the degree to which such experience equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies that govern national security and intelligence matters involving all aspects of the intelligence enterprise.
