The incumbent serves as an engineering drawings Technical Information Specialist for the Drawings Team, Drawings and Graphics Support Section, Technical Information Management Branch. This individual is responsible for the evaluation, revision, promulgation, and distribution of surface naval engineering drawings in the Coast Guard’s enterprise surface technical information repository, CG-LIMS-STIP.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

- Evaluating, revising, publishing, and distributing surface naval engineering drawings in accordance with established organizational directives.

- Serving as Project Lead for various projects designated by the Team Lead or Section Chief. These projects typically include the duties described above, along with publishing project schedules, and capturing and reporting on metrics to accurately measure project trends.

- Identifying, locating, retrieving, analyzing, and reporting on data requests within CG-LIMS STIP, including responding to a full range of complex surface engineering drawing inquiries from customers.

- Serve as AutoCAD Subject Matter Expert, maintaining software proficiency by refreshing skills through formal and on the job training.

- Remaining current and proficient with applicable CG-LIMS STIP functionality, providing support and functional training to the user community as required, assisting with acceptance testing and troubleshooting of STIP software releases pertaining to engineering drawing functional areas, and assisting with drafting enhancement requests and justifications or trouble tickets as required.

- Monitoring and capturing daily work assignments within established team metric tools, meeting assigned requirements and timelines, and keeping Team Lead informed of project progress, performance, and production accomplishments.

- Assisting in development of written and oral reports, abstracts, summaries, etc. related to surface engineering drawing matters.

- Submitting weekly bullets summarizing noteworthy accomplishments to the Team Lead, and providing constructive input during team meetings.

- Other tasking related to surface engineering drawings as identified by the Team Lead and Section Chief.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. This includes Time-In-Grade requirements for current status employees applying through merit promotion procedures. Status applicants applying for a promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must show successful completion of a full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with major study in engineering or related fields. OR Four years of experience that provided a knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of a discipline or subject matter field; an understanding of the standard methods, procedures, and techniques of research and analysis in the subject-matter field. Such experience must have been equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum. Or A combination of education and experience described above.

Additional Experience and Education Requirements: GS-9: In addition to meeting the basic requirements listed above, candidates must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in federal service. OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Examples of specialized experience would include: analyzing and organizing miscellaneous engineering technical information or materials; gathering information from a wide variety of sources; analyzing information and responding to inquiries from customers requesting technical information; applying subject matter knowledge in the field of engineering to respond to customer inquiries; and locating highly technical and specialized engineering information presenting findings in reports, summaries, charts, or other formats. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position and which is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
