Duties

Help
  • Maintains all the official files for the office in accordance with established Army records management procedures.
  • Maintains the office calendars of engagements, commitments, and deadlines.
  • Maintains a cumulative file of accounts or events related to the history of the District.
  • Reviews documents prepared for or requiring coordination for conformance with regulations, grammar, format, and special policies of the office.
  • Performs a variety of general administrative functions in support of the Public Affairs Office including, but not limited to: training coordination; resource and records management; property control; timekeeping; mail processing.
  • Utilizes office automation systems.
  • Prepares communications for distribution to field offices to keep them abreast of District events and activities.
  • Makes the necessary public and internal contacts and responds appropriately to external public queries involving routine aspects of the Public Information Programs.
  • Determines whether media requests for interviews, photographs and/or information are of sufficient importance/scope to warrant the Chief, Public Affairs attention or whether the request should be handled personally.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Using standard computer software and office equipment; 2) Perform a wide variety of administrative support duties; 3) Routing of general public correspondence, reviews and processes incoming and outgoing correspondence, reports, create web content, video products; 4) Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners; AND 5) Maintains and updates media databases; budgeting, supply management, purchasing, personnel administration, timekeeping, data processing and project tracking. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
