Summary

This position is located in the Cash Division of the Philadelphia MINT. This position is to provide the full scope of material handling duties associated with warehousing, vault security, shipping and receiving activities and all miscellaneous material movement. These material handlers are to sign for coins, transport coins and coinage metal, store supplies and equipment and move other material to storage staging areas, and on and off armored and commercial carriers.

Duties

As a MATERIAL HANDLER (FORKLIFT OPERATOR), you will:

  • Receive coinage materials for storage and or transfer. Examine materials to verify identity and routing documents. Check for discrepancies or unreported damaged materials.
  • Insure that all previous processing has been completed by observing condition and appearance, and checking routing documents for inspection sign-off from each process.
  • Monitor conveyor lines to assure that when cycle is complete an empty tank or box is available and the line is reset for continuous operation. Assure that a supply of tanks or tubs is available, weighed, and recorded when scrap condemned is shipped. Calculate total weight of scrap condemned shipment.
  • Receive all finished coins from the Coining Division; inspect and count bags, verify each pallet for accuracy of label, and denomination, prior to shipment. Inspect and count bags that will be transported to the vaults for segregation and stacking by value and following proper warehousing procedures.
  • Prepare transfer slip, designating load, tub, weight, denomination, manufacturer, and alloy prior to transfer of scrap condemned to storage staging area.

Physical Requirement:

Regularly handles weights up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted. Material handling devices and assistance of other workers is available for handling especially heavy items. Heavy exertion is frequent. Constant kneeling, crouching, stooping, and walking are required. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the fork lift truck and raising, lowering, and tilting the loads being involved.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.

  • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be able to work all shifts on a rotational basis.
  • May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
