The salary range for a GS-7 is $44,740.00 to $58,158.00; and a GS-9 is $54,727.00 to $71,146.00; and a GS-11 is $66,214,00 to $86,074.00. The salary range contains multiple steps. In most cases, the salary will be set at the starting end of the range for the grade level selected for new federal employees.

Duties

Help

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing analytical and program management work to
ensure all United States Attorney's Office (USAO) records and information, are created, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with Federal, Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA), and Department of Justice (DOJ) guidelines. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Applies the General Records Schedule or National Archives and Records Administration approved Agency Records Schedule to all official records;
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to the USAO staff with respect to individual, or case-related, records management issues in conformance with policy, guidelines, and regulations;
  • Ensures case management or other records systems accurately follow Federal Records Center guidance;
  • Determines incoming cases or legal actions requiring special handling and makes appropriate referral prior to coding and data entry;
  • Oversees and prepares case files to be sent to the Federal Records Center annually;
  • Receives and reviews the necessary documentation required and opens all criminal and civil cases.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

GS-7: To be qualified at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education OR a combination of Education and Experience.

Specialized experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing projects and assignments involving official records including official electronic media; maintaining file arrangement systems, filing procedures, and filing techniques of official records; entering information into an electronic recordkeeping system; organizing and archiving physical and electronic files; retrieving information using query routines or from hard copy reports; and reviewing legal documents to determine appropriate coding and data entry into a docketing system.

Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Business Management, Public Administration or Computer Science): One full year of graduate level education.

Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

Superior Academic Achievement: Possess a Bachelor's Degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months AND possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 OR at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on the average of required courses completed in my major field OR based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; OR election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.

GS-9: To be qualified at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education OR a combination of Education and Experience.

Specialized experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: entering information into an electronic recordkeeping system; identifying and maintaining Federal records according to established records schedules; performing analysis of record keeping systems to ensure accuracy of data entry; performing studies on the design of types of records, filing systems, procedures, and techniques; developing or requesting new or modified reports; and reviewing legal files for missing documentation or information.

Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Business Management, Public Administration or Computer Science): A Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.); OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

GS-11: To be qualified at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education OR a combination of Education and Experience.

Specialized experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: identifying and maintaining Federal records according to established records schedules; analyzing operations to develop records management policy and procedure; performing analysis of record keeping systems and making recommendations to the design of record keeping systems; providing advisory services to management on effective records management control systems; and extracting and analyzing program or statistical data.

Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Business Management, Public Administration or Computer Science): A PhD. or equivalent graduate degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such degree or LLM.

Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
