The Technical Fellow Flight Mechanics:
-Provides expertise to the Agency for Flight Mechanics/Dynamics which encompasses design, analysis, prediction, measurement, and test of vehicle dynamics, trajectories, and performance.
-Collaborates with other eminent researchers and engineers from academia and other research or operations centers on tasks and in conducting and sponsoring discipline advancing work.
-Communicates engineering findings through NASA publications, scientific and engineering journals, tutorial seminars and courses as part of NESC Academy, at universities in the US and abroad, and is a presenter at national and international meetings.
-Provides technical leadership of the NESC technical resources in order to perform independent technical reviews and is an expert in the discipline.
-Provides stewardship for the discipline including attending conferences and workshops to enhance discipline awareness; periodically reporting the state of their discipline to the leadership of the Agency.
-Assembling a living catalogue of critical skills and facilities available for their discipline; ensuring consistency is maintained with creation and maintenance of Agency-level standards and specifications, including "core" standards.
-Ensures lessons learned are identified and incorporated into the standards process, and is available to disposition major and/or complex waivers and deviations in his/her discipline.
-Serves as a voting member of the NESC Review Board.
This position has a positive education requirement. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in engineering, physical science, mathematics, life sciences, computer science, or other field of science.

NASA may discuss and consider candidate duty station location after selection, which means that the duties can be performed at any NASA location. The selected candidate will need to relocate and report to an on-site NASA location or duty station, which may be different from where he/she currently resides.
Due to COVID-19, NASA is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement within 30 days. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the agency's telework policy.
The selectee receives a temporary promotion and serves for a period of 3 to 5 years. Upon conclusion of the temporary promotion, the selectee will then return to an appropriate position at a grade level no lower than the grade previously held. This temporary promotion may be converted to a permanent appointment without further competition. This temporary promotion may be terminated at any time
