Responsible to the Director, JAWS for the preparation and delivery of approved and relevant curriculum to students attending JAWS. Specifically responsible for:
-Teaching. Preparation and teaching of a research seminar/elective on a JAWS relevant topic. Prepares relevant curriculum that incorporates critical thinking techniques, and delivers informal lectures, case studies, guided discussions, field research visits, and practical exercises.
- Research. Conducts research on topical areas related to strategy, history, theory, joint matters, operational art, leadership, and campaigning; maintains current knowledge and expertise in areas of education and assessment; makes presentations and/or publishes results of research and analysis.
- Engagement and Outreach. Represents the Joint Advanced Warfighting School to professional organizations, senior-level audiences, and other appropriate stakeholders. Conduct engagements and establish relationships with these types of institutions, leading to mutually beneficial outcomes and promoting the goals of the College and NDU.
- Service. Support the effective running of JAWS through performance of collateral duties as assigned by Director, JAWS. the incumbent will mentor, guide, teach, and coach other faculty members as appropriate in the performance of their educational responsibilities; in particular, focusing on the professional development of other civilian and military faculty.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
A Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent) in a discipline related to the JAWS curriculum (i.e. military history, history with a concentration in military history, international relations, security studies, or political science).
Minimum of two years' documented teaching experience at a regionally accredited college or university.
Research experience, demonstrated through scholarship, publications, and/or outreach activities in the fields of areas of Military History, International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies or a closely related field.
Minimum of 2 years of Professional (civilian or military) experience working within 1 of the following fields: Military History and Theory; Strategy and International Relations; Joint and Multi-National warfighting, Force Application, Joint Command and Control; or Strategic Leadership.
Minimum of 2 years professional experience, education, and/or research background in curriculum development, instructional design, learning/education theory, and/or assessment of instruction and student learning.
Desired Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent) in a relevant discipline (i.e. military history, history with a concentration in military history, or a doctorate in a related field such as international relations, security studies, or political science).
Eight years' experience teaching at the college level with a record of excellence and contributions to the curriculum.
Superior writing skills as well as the ability to instruct students in the writing of a graduate level thesis and other written assessments.
Knowledge of the Military Departments, the Department of Defense in general, and the procedures and practices of the Joint Staff and combatant commands. Regional expertise in Europe, South America, Africa, Middle East, or Pacific area.
An understanding of political-military interaction and the role of other government agencies in the development of a national security strategy. Knowledge of theater and joint task force operations; knowledge of multinational warfare and warfighting as applied in past campaigns and major operations.
Previous experience teaching Joint Professional Military Education.
Criteria for Determining Academic Rank:
Professor (AD-04): Requires an earned doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree in a field related to national security. Documented experience in full-time graduate-level teaching at a regionally accredited university or college for at least 8 years of which at least three years must be at the graduate level, sustained record of excellence and leadership of scholarship among peers and external recognition of excellence and a sustained record of advancement of institutional partnerships, relationships that leverage cross-component mission success, and networks of influence that contribute to national security.
Associate Professor (AD-03): Requires an earned doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree in a field related to national security. Requires 5 years teaching experience, with at least 2 years graduate, record of excellence and leadership of scholarship among peers, and external recognition of excellence and record of advancement of institutional partnerships. relationships that leverage cross-component mission success, and networks of influence that contribute to national security.
Assistant Professor (AD-02): Requires an earned master's degree, doctoral degree, or equivalent terminal degree preferred, in a field related to national security. Education or teaching experience in an academic environment, knowledge of best practices, and commitment to lifelong learning, and preferably has at least two years, or the instructional equivalent, of full-time teaching experience at a regionally accredited college or university, scholarship/research resulting in the creation and sharing of new knowledge through teaching or publishing; and aptitude in collaboration across institutional boundaries.
Education
Education Requirement: Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or, international equivalent, (doctorate preferred) in a discipline directly related to national security, or similar disciplines/focus areas relevant to the duties of this position (education, international relations, public policy, political science, military history, strategic leadership, or related discipline).
