Summary
This position is located in the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of Investigations (OI), Mid-Atlantic Regional Office, Arlington, VA.
The Office of Investigations (OI) carries out a comprehensive nationwide program to prevent, detect, and investigate criminal or otherwise prohibited activity that may harm the operations or integrity of the FDIC and its programs.
Applicants with status (i.e., current permanent Federal employees in the competitive service and former Federal employees with reinstatement eligibility); those eligible for appointment under special hiring authorities; and veterans eligible for a VEOA appointment. This vacancy is limited to 100 applicants and may close before the close date listed here if that limit is reached.
Manages and supervises the workload of a contingent of Special Agents. Selects, trains, develops and supervises investigative personnel. Sets priorities; reviews work products; resolves informal complaints; takes minor disciplinary actions and interviews applicants, recommends appointments, promotions and reassignments. Supports equal employment opportunity.
Directly supervises all investigations performed by the Regional Office. Allocates investigative resources. Provides direction and guidance to Special Agents in the conduct of investigations. Supervises the preparation and issuance of reports. Makes recommendations concerning the pursuit of criminal prosecution, civil or administrative proceedings. Evaluates criminal investigations policies, approaches and techniques.
Keeps the AIGI informed of the progress of investigations. Represents the Office of investigations in a variety of forums. Coordinates with the Office of Audits and and Evaluations regarding assignments of mutual interest. Serves as the OI's representative in interagency investigative matters on a regional basis. Maintains cooperative relationships with key officials of the Department of Justice, FBI and other government departments and agencies.

Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) required.
The minimum age for "initial appointment" to a law enforcement position is 21, and the maximum age is 37 (except for veterans' preference eligibles). Individuals must be selected for these positions prior to their 37th birthday.
Qualifications
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 13 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as as managing or leading a staff responsible for investigative cases/overseeing caseloads involving complex investigations.

1. Applicants must meet the age requirements for "covered" positions under the special retirement provisions for law enforcement officers' positions. Minimum age restriction -- You must have reached your 21st birthday to be appointed into this position. Maximum age restriction -- You can be appointed into this position as long as you have not reached your 37th birthday. The maximum age restriction does not apply if you are a preference eligible, or you are presently or have previously been employed in a Federal civilian law enforcement position covered under the 6c retirement coverage (Title 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) or Title 5 U.S.C. 8412 (d)). 2. LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition [Title 18, USC, Section 922 (g) 9]. A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" is generally defined under the statute as any offense involving the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by the victim's current or former domestic partner, parent, or guardian. The term "convicted", as defined in the statute excludes any person whose conviction has been expunged, set-aside, or pardoned, or any person whose civil rights have been restored unless the pardon, expungement, or restoration of civil rights expressly prohibits the possession of firearms or ammunition. Candidates who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence within the meaning of the referenced statute are not qualified for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment (Title 18, USC, Section 1001).
3. MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidate selected must meet and maintain medical requirements for law enforcement officers. This includes a pre-employment physical examination and periodic physical examinations throughout the incumbent's career as a law enforcement officer.
