The AO is seeking applicants for its 2022 summer internship program. The opportunity is intended to provide valuable work experience for students interested in a public service career. The student will have an opportunity to improve his or her writing, research, analytical, logical, multi-tasking, and customer-service skills.

The AO is committed to attracting the best and brightest applicants in our support of the Third Branch of government. We take pride in serving the judicial branch and supporting its mission to provide equal justice under law. The Facilities and Security Office (FSO) welcomes students working for academic credit, as well as those seeking an internship for career-related training. The intern will support the Resource Management Division.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Assisting with database management related to budget and finance aspects of real estate and court security projects for the judicial branch.
  2. Assisting with managing and organizing data from different sources.
  3. Working with Microsoft Excel and other data management applications such as Microsoft Access.
  4. Shadowing Resource Management Division (RMD) staff and attending meetings to learn about how the judiciary works and FSO/RMD's role in fulfilling the judiciary's mission.
  5. Providing RMD staff and leadership with ideas and opinions on processes, procedures and if there are ways to do things better and/or more efficiently based on past experience or from what has been learned through their studies.
  6. Sharing perspectives on the internship experience with FSO staff in the form of a written report and/or a presentation to FSO staff.
  7. Attending educational and training sessions to aid with professional development, networking, and learning new skills.
  8. Conducting research and assisting with special projects and day-to-day operations.
  9. Performing general office tasks.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  6. All new AO employees are required to identify a financial institution for direct deposit of pay before appointment.
  7. You will be required to serve a trial period if selected for a first-time appointment to the Federal government, transferring from another Federal agency, or serving as a first-time supervisor. Failure to successfully complete the trial period may result in termination of employment.
  8. If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification Requirements: Qualifications for the AO internship program positions are closely related to the criteria established for executive branch positions by the Office of Personnel Management. Intern positions are classified and paid under a broad-banded system. Salary is set commensurate with educational background and experience. Demonstrated relevant work experience will be credited.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student in either an undergraduate or graduate level program.
  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of undergraduate education beyond high school.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0 (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED).
Additional Qualification Requirements: In addition to meeting the BASIC QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS, applicants must also:
  • Have the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Have very strong communication and reading skills and be detailed oriented.
  • Have a working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, or WordPerfect.
  • Have excellent writing, reading and interpersonal skills, and be able to organize a variety of assignments simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
Note: The AO internship program requires all participants to be an active student. Therefore, seniors graduating at the end of the Spring 2022 semester will not be considered if they are not continuing as a full-time student in the fall semester as a graduate student. For those graduating with a degree in Spring 2022 who are continuing studies in Fall 2022, proof of enrollment will be required.

Education

School Affiliation: All students in the internship program must be enrolled in an accredited school, and must be working toward a degree, diploma, certificate, etc. on a full or part-time basis. Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. You can receive credit for education received outside the United States if you provide evidence that it is comparable to an accredited educational institution in the United States. Transcripts are required to apply for this position.
