About the Position: Serves as Librarian for US Army Combined Arms Center, Dean of Academics, Combined Arms Research Library, located at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

This is a developmental position and may be filled at either the GS-09 or GS-11 grade level.

Duties

Help
  • Perform collection development and management of information resources functions.
  • Follow library policies and procedures and assists in making decisions on the replacement, transfer, withdrawal, or preservation of individual titles.
  • Research and compile bibliographies, specialized lists, briefing guides, abstracts, indexes, LibGuides, and information brochures in Spanish and English in support of assigned school's requirements.
  • Screen professional literature, catalogs, trade journals, bibliographies, book reviews, etc. and recommends materials in Spanish and English to meet organizational, educational, or personal needs of the library user.
  • Identify Spanish and English language print and electronic library materials, databases, websites, government documents, and other resources useful to student research.
  • Research and evaluate available foreign language databases and other electronic products and recommends purchase or trial subscription.
  • Conduct reference interviews and interacts with customers to establish and analyze their requirements and Identify and participate in outreach projects for library users.
  • Identify Spanish and English language print and electronic library materials, databases, websites, government documents, and other resources useful to student research.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. All librarians must meet the basic requirements for professional education in library science or possess equivalent experience and education as described below:

Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree;

OR

A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification and/or education requirements listed below:

QUALIFICATION FOR GS-09

Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal Service which includes providing research and information guidance to Library users.

OR

Education: Successfully completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a Master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., if related to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

QUALIFICATION FOR GS-11

Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal Service which includes maintaining a collaborative relationship with faculty, students, and staff to improve the quality of the academic program by ensuring library collections, resources, and services support curriculum and research requirements are available.

OR

Education: Successfully completed three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education in library science or doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) related to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
