Duties

Help
  • Perform Police Officer duties on a variety of fixed and mobile posts and enforces safety regulations to enforce State and Federal laws.
  • Conduct enforcement duties at interior and exterior gates, assures proper identification of all pedestrians or motor traffic, clears visitors, and maintained prescribed records.
  • Investigates misdemeanor crimes such as recovered property, trespass, illegal dumping, shoplifting, abandoned vehicles, security violations, and traffic violations.
  • Administers field sobriety test, uses radar to enforce speed restrictions and promote traffic safety, monitors parking lots, streets, and intersections for violations, issues warnings and citations, and reports traffic accidents.
  • Maintains traffic controls, enforces traffic regulations controls and reroutes traffic in emergency situations, issues warning, tickets or summons, apprehend violators, obtains facts and prepares statements concerning accidents or violations.
  • Conducts searches of persons and vehicles entering and leaving installation as directed or when probable cause exists.
  • Performs administrative work, writing reports, completing forms, attending briefings, prepares equipment for duty, checks out motor vehicles and weapons and attends training sessions.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The incumbent of this position must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program, or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Individual Reliability Program certification IAW AR 190-56.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid US state and local government driver's license.
  • This position requires shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays and other situations.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work overtime.
  • A medical screening/examination is required in accordance with Army Regulation 19056, Appendix B and C, AR 50-5, AR 50-6, and/or AR 190-59. Immunizations, such as Hepatitis B, may be required.
  • Must be able to pass annual physical agility test per AR 19056, and maintain be able to perform physically demanding and occasionally arduous tasks as are expected in a force protection/ law enforcement first responder environment.
  • Firearms testing and successful qualification to Army published standards required on a semi-annual basis. This may include firing at night, with one hand, or while under time or physical stress.
  • Position requires employee to perform routine and emergency daily duties while wearing a uniform and/or protective clothing and/or personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to successfully graduate from a United States Army Military Police School accredited Civilian Police or Security Guard Course; unless waived.
  • Incumbent must be able to act in the capacity of a first responder to critical incidents, including but not limited to: criminal acts, natural disasters, lost or missing persons, mass casualties, and/or acts of terror or mass destruction.
  • Incumbent will be required to execute the lawful orders of critical incident commanders, military or civilian, assigned duties as such.
  • Position requires lifting and carrying of heavy objects
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain an Individual Reliability Program certification IAW AR 190-56.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-06 level, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level of GS-05. Specialized experience at the GS-05 level is defined as follows:

  • Experience interpreting and applying a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property; and
  • Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military policer officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this position, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone. Substitution of education for experience is NOT permitted.
