About the Position: This position is located at Fort Riley with the Embedded Behavioral Health Department.

Duties

Help
  • Provides targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem.
  • Makes behavioral health diagnoses as appropriate in accordance with DSM-IV-TR criteria, or other, more current, accepted standards.
  • Provides individual and group therapy, using various modalities as clinically indicated to include brief problem-focused psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and client-centered therapy.
  • Reviews and approves the appropriate modality of each patient.
  • Formulates behavioral health interventions and assists with implementation and monitoring of treatment plans.
  • Works as an inter-disciplinary team member to develop specific clinical pathways or best practice programs for targeted patient groups such as patients with acute stress symptoms and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Pursuant to EO 14043, all Federal employees, regardless of duty location or work arrangement, must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entrance on duty, subject to exceptions as required by law.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirements for the Social Worker (Clinical) GS-09:

Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Basic Requirements for the Social Worker (Clinical) GS-11:

Degree:
Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes for an adult treatment population, conducting biopsychosocial evaluations, assist with providing individual and/or group therapy, and implementing behavioral health treatment plans (GS-09).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.

This recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade of the position without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management.
