Duties

Help
  • Secure freight for shipment.
  • Serve as facility Primary Kiln Operator.
  • Develop plans for fabrication of first-time or unusual material items.
  • Maintain lumber accountability.
  • Comply with applicable regulations and requirements.
  • Plan detailed work instructions for wood workers and blocker and bracers to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Measure areas to determine size of blocking and bracing materials and structures.
  • Ensure all supplies including dimensional lumber, hardware, Tyvek and other supplies are available.
  • Determine the best methods and materials for blocking and bracing items for shipment.
  • Determine lumber and supplies needed to complete work.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
  • Pursuant to EO 14043, all Federal employees, regardless of duty location or work arrangement, must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by November 22, 2021, or before entrance on duty if after November 22, subject to exceptions as required by law.

  • Incumbent must undergo physical examination and receive favorable results prior to appointment and annually thereafter.
  • The position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Must maintain eligibility for Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AA and E) Certification/Screening IAW AR 190-11.
  • Must meet ammunition certification requirements IAW AMC-R 350-4 within one year of appointment.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a PLANNER AND ESTIMATOR (BLOCKER AND BRACER) without more than normal supervision. Secure freight such as heavy, unbalanced machinery, vehicles, and equipment; industrial plant equipment; artillery; odd-shaped containers; large explosive bombs, rockets, and missiles; sensitive electronic equipment; vans, gondola cars, boxcars, and barges. Experience maintaining a kiln and inspecting lumber for compliance with regulations; AND maintaining automated databases for accurate accounting. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort:
Requires standing and walking through shop area and occasionally throughout maintenance building. May occasionally carry stock or parts weighing up to 10 pounds. Requires extended periods of sitting at a computer terminal.

Working Conditions:
Works in a well-lighted, temperature controlled office but is required to regularly visit the shop area with concrete floors, grinding dust, dirt, heat, noise, fumes, burns, cuts, bruises, injuries to hands from tools and materials, skin irritations from coolant, lubricants and abrasive compounds. Wears safety glasses, safety shoes, and other safety apparel and equipment as required. Works both inside and outside, with frequent exposure to disagreeable heat, coldness, dampness, wind and rain. Frequently exposed to noise and possible cuts, abrasions, and splinters from power sawing, handling lumber, spiking, nailing, and other work. Exposed to nose and lung irritation from dust and sawdust, and possible injuries from falling objects, swinging crane loads, etc. To avoid injuries, may wear protective eyeglasses, a face shield, protective ear devices, gloves, hard hats, hard toe shoes, or other protective equipment. Will be subject to general explosion hazard for the majority of the time and may also be subject to TNT or Tetryl-Poison hazard, toxic fumes, and other conditions found in explosives handling.

Education

Some Federal positions allow the substitution of education for experience. For this position, you must qualify based on experience alone.
