Duties

Help
  • Conducts research and development in the Materials and Structures Branch to address military and civil works infrastructure needs, with a focus on polymeric materials and polymer matrix composites for large infrastructure applications.
  • Plans and conducts laboratory experiments in accordance with applicable safety procedures and utilizing appropriate variable controls, including testing to determine physical properties/mechanical properties of polymeric and polymer matrix materials.
  • Maintains laboratory sample preparation and testing equipment and instrumentation in working order. Prepares and conditions test specimens.
  • Performs field work such as equipment setup, data collection and analysis, and evaluation of results at military installations and Corps of Engineers sites.
  • Collects, analyzes, and draws conclusions from experimental data and documents results.
  • Communicates research results orally and in writing. Prepares materials for technical presentations and writes/reviews technical reports, journal articles, and conference papers.
  • Assists senior researchers with development and preparation of research proposals, work plans, project budgets, and other project documentation.
  • Mentors, guides, and delegates tasks to laboratory technicians and student research assistants in a team environment in the laboratory and in the generation of reports and research documentation.
  • Contributes to common goals in a team environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

"This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-XXXX-02 (equivalent to GS-5/11). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, Laboratory Demonstration Project employees must have a current average performance score of at least 2.5 or equivalent (fully successful rating) for promotion consideration.
