Duties

Help
  • Collects and records information on items such as water quality and sediment samples.
  • Conducts radio dispatch operations.
  • Enforces rules and regulations regarding project use, patrols camp grounds, and directs traffic.
  • Develops and conducts interpretive talks and guided tour programs.
  • Checks usage and condition of public use areas, commercial docks, group camps, and other recreation areas, including safety, fire, sanitation, and maintenance.
  • Performs various light maintenance tasks.
  • Assists higher graded employees collecting data on visitor attendance/user counts and erosion problems.

  • This is a seasonal position. Seasonal employment means annually recurring periods of work that typically last six months each year, but may vary depending upon the needs of management.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. EXPERIENCE:
GS-03;(6) six months of general experience and (3) three months of specialized experience.
GS-04; (6) six months of general experience and (6) six months of specialized experience.

General Experience is defined as: experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public.

AND

Specialized experience is defined as performing work such as: experience performing work for a recreation program (i.e. fishing, water skiing, camping, hiking, or other outdoor recreation activities either paid or voluntary work).

OR

SUBSTITUTION OF EXPERIENCE FOR QUALIFYING EDUCATION:GS-03 Successful completion of 1 year above high school with 6 semester hours of related course work. Major study - natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled.

GS-04 Successful completion of 2 years above high school with 12 semester hours of related course work. Major study - natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled.

  • Salary ranges from $29,122.00 to $42,498.00 Per Year. Salary will be adjusted to the location in which you are selected.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

  • This is a Career Program (CP) 18 - Engineers & Scientists (Construction) - position.

  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
  • Due to COVID-19, the agency is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement within a designated time frame identified by the organization. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the agency's telework policy.
  • Will be required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Will be required to wear a uniform.
  • Must Possess a valid state drivers license.
  • Must be at least 17 years old to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways.
  • This is a Temporary Position not to exceed 6 months; Selectee's may be reinstated to the same position for the next season in the following year if the work is required. Temporary positions do not confer competitive status, this position is not intended to be converted in a permanent position.
  • This vacancy is for temporary employment without the intent to be converted into a permanent position. Employment may be terminated at the convenience of the government, the end of the Lake season, or prior to the 6 month expiration of appointment.
  • Management may select from any grade. Employees will be selected at the GS-03 or the GS-04 level, there is no non-competitive promotion potential.
