The following are the duties of this position at the GS-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
- Carries out a wide range of actions required for processing archival records according to NARA policies, procedures, and standards. May carry out or participate in projects to improve online content about holdings and/or prepare records for online access.
- Assists in the planning and coordination of partnership or internal digitization activities.
- Consults with archivists on access and metadata needs of digitization projects.
- Provides initial reviews of records proposed for digitization for conservation concerns and consults with archivists and conservation staff as needed. Assists in preparing and adding digital objects to the catalog.
- Coordinates document preparation activities, monitors workflow processes, and monitors holdings security procedures. Follows procedures for content quality control.
- Provides public services to individuals, agencies, and organizations in order to provide access to NARA's holdings. Public services may include facilitating in-person use of records in a NARA research room, providing reproduction services, and providing written and oral reference assistance.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized Experience:
For the GS-11: you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Utilizing a wide range of systems or databases to search beyond readily accessible material to locate, analyze, index, and manage records; AND
- Independently performing analytical and research techniques to deliver reference and research assistance to individuals, agencies and organizations; AND
- Performing / Providing physical and intellectual controls in adherence with archival principles and organization procedures and practices.
OR
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. A combination of education and experience. Only graduate level education in excess of 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours), may be used to combine education and experience.
For the GS-09: you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Reviewing and analyzing policies and procedures; AND
- Preparing various written documents and reports for management; AND
- Communicating mission goals, needs, or problems with internal and external stakeholders.

You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
