Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

- Carries out a wide variety of complex actions required to transfer the legal and physical custody of federal agency or court records to NARA. Incumbent uses and analyzes data in ERA, Archives and Records Centers Information System (ARCIS), and HMS to accomplish accessioning.

- Carries out a wide range of actions required for processing archival records according to NARA policies, procedures, and standards.

- Provides public services to individuals, agencies, and organizations in order to provide access to NARA's holdings.

- Assumes point-of-contact (POC) duties for some office administrative tasks, such as: maintaining the office file plan, procurement/supply responsibilities, property, and trust fund accounting.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience:

For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

- Utilizing a wide range of systems or databases to search beyond readily accessible material to locate, analyze, index, and manage records; AND
- Independently performing analytical and research techniques to deliver reference and research assistance to individuals, agencies and organizations; AND
- Performing / Providing physical and intellectual controls in adherence with archival principles and organization procedures and practices.

OR

You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.

OR

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. A combination of education and experience. Only graduate level education in excess of 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours), may be used to combine education and experience.

For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

- Utilizing a wide range of systems or databases to search beyond readily accessible material to locate, analyze, index, and manage records; AND
-Performing record maintenance and preservation in adherence with archival principles, procedures and record keeping practices.

OR

You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows:Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.

OR

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.

For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

- Performing record maintenance and preservation in adherence with archival principles, procedures and record keeping practices; AND
- Providing customer service and guidance with record research and reference and access services.

OR

You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: 1 full year of graduate level education.

OR

Superior academic achievement. Based on a Bachelors degree that is demonstrated through class standing (upper 1/3 of class); grade point average (3.0/4.0 overall or 3.5/4.0 in major), or election to membership in a qualifying national scholastic honor society.

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the specialized experience requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the educational requirement must equal at least 100 percent.
