Duties

  • The duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Enter, review, and check the accuracy of data in the USDA National Farmers Market Directory and National Farmers Market Manager survey.
  • Analyze data related to local food and creating materials for practitioners.
  • Assist the Market Manager and other Branch/Office of Operations staff as appropriate with weekly farmers market operations and special events planning/implementation.
  • Assist in the development of outreach and technical assistance materials related to Division food hub and local food distribution work.
  • Assist retrieving data from large datasets in order to respond to technical inquiries from stakeholders, supporting the conduct of consumer intercept surveys and customer counts at farmers markets.
  • Adhere to Civil Rights policies, goals, and objectives in performing the duties of this position.
  • Create charts, graphs and update, manage and conduct queries of statistical datasets using Microsoft Access and Excel software.
  • Extract and report pertinent information from large datasets and clearly communicate findings with peers and managers.
  • Work as part of a project team and meet time-sensitive deadlines.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

ELIGIBILITY: Students who are currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program.

Applicants can qualify by meeting the EDUCATION requirements specified below.

EDUCATION:

GS-5: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. Preferred fields of study: Business, Finance, Economics, Law, or Marketing.

TRANSCRIPTS are required:

  • You are qualifying for the position based on education.
  • This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university.

Additional information

The anticipated hours are 20-30 hours per week. Work must be performed between M-F 6am-6pm; work schedule will be determined/finalized by supervisor upon appointment.

This is a temporary Pathways Internship Program appointment not-to-exceed one year and may be extended based on program needs and if the student meets program requirements.

Housing and travel expenses will not be paid.

This Internship confers eligibility for a noncompetitive conversion to a permanent or term position in the competitive service contingent upon meeting all applicable Internship Program requirements and the needs of the agency. You will be considered for conversion to a permanent or term position upon the successful completion of your Internship. However, please note that eligibility for conversion does not guarantee the agency will opt for conversion.

If selected, official transcripts will be required prior to entrance on duty. Proof of enrollment or acceptance for the upcoming academic term or semester will also be required unless graduating in the current semester.

A Pathways Participant Agreement will be required if you are selected for a position. The agreement must be signed by all applicable parties prior to entrance on duty.

Student Interns must continue to meet the Pathways Program requirements throughout the duration of the appointment. Incumbents will be required to provide proof of continued enrollment and good standing each semester or grading period throughout the internship program. Failure to do so will result in termination of the appointment.

This position may be eligible to telework up to four days per week, based upon the duties of the position. This position may also be eligible for flexible work arrangements as determined by agency policy and any applicable collective bargaining agreements.

This position requires working outdoors, once a week, in a farmers market setting.
