As a CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR, GS-1811-7/9/11, your typical work assignments may include the following:
Conduct investigations that may result in criminal or civil/administrative prosecution and criminal or civil/administrative penalties.
Conduct arrests, searches, and seizures in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, pertinent laws, regulations, directives and court decisions; includes collection and the preservation of physical evidence.
Analyze allegations, complaints, referrals, and investigations to identify issues involved and the types of evidence need to properly address each matter.
Prepare comprehensive investigative reports in order to present complex and conflicting findings in a clear, logical, impartial, comprehensive, and concise manner.
Advise and assist U.S. Attorneys or other prosecutors and their staff members in the preparation of investigations for presentation to Federal and State/local Grand Juries, and appear as a witness before Grand Juries and trial courts.
Conduct liaison activities with other internal and external stakeholders and partners, including Federal, State, and local agencies, representing the interests of the employing agency.
Comply with all existing policies, procedures and guidelines (including the use of force policy) pertaining to use, display, safety and maintenance of firearms and intermediate weapons.
Position has been designated as Special Sensitive; incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.
May require travel internationally and/or deployment to Southwest Asia.

You are minimally qualified for the GS-07 Level if you possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level within the federal service. These acquired knowledge and skills must demonstrate skill to independently perform duties such as: identify sources of information to detect illegal activity and document issues or probable cause; conduct investigations using accepted methodology and problem solving techniques; take statements from witnesses, third parties, and other knowledgeable persons; research, analyze, interpret, and evaluate data and information to make appropriate recommendations; and prepare reports and technical information. OR a combination of specialized experience, as described above, and related graduate level education, beyond the first full year of graduate level study.
You are minimally qualified for the GS-11 Level if you possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level within the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: skill in planning and conducting investigations relating to alleged or suspected criminal violations of Federal laws, with emphasis on contract fraud and program fraud; proficient in critically analyzing financial crimes; recognizing, developing, and presenting evidence to reconstruct events; sequences, time elements, relationships, responsibilities, legal liabilities, and conflicts of interest; devising new investigative approaches, techniques and policies; preparing written documentation such as reports, describing evidence, recording facts about persons, objects and events; communicating instructions verbally, presenting case facts and recommendations, conducting interviews and interrogations; assisting other criminal investigators, management, and US Attorneys under the guidance of a senior level in investigator.; OR a combination of specialized experience, as described above, and related graduate level education, beyond the first full year of doctoral level study.

Education
