About the position: This position will be assigned to the Child Development Center. This position is regular, full time, working 35-40 hours per week; full benefits package. Applications will be reviewed every 2 weeks until close of this announcement.

This position requires frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 40 lbs, constant standing, stooping, reaching, pushing, bending and walking. Works in hot and noisy kitchens. Exposed to extreme temperatures

Duties

Help

The purpose of this position is to prepare and plan or coordinate the preparation of entire meals for the children attending the program. Using a full range of quantity cooking procedures from common or frequently used to new or difficult recipes, over a period of time prepares a variety of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, sauces and gravies. On a day-to-day basis, prepares four or more menu items for one meal which involves planning and coordinating steps to ensure that all items are ready for serving at the same time. Orders food, drink and various ingredients/supplies to meet USDA, Air Force Guidelines or center based needs. Implements and follows all Air Force Standardized menus and recipes.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience in and a thorough knowledge of food preparation and characteristics of foods. Must be able to plan, coordinate, and time sequence steps needed to prepare entire meals on time without overcooking or waste. Must be able to adjust recipes for servings required, substitutions and seasoning; recognize characteristics of foods in deciding that raw materials are fresh; and judge prepared food by color, consistency, temperature, odor and taste. Experience and knowledge must have been gained in a restaurant, club, cafeteria, or similar establishment. Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally over 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Must be at least 18 years of age; hold a high school diploma or equivalent; read, speak, and write English; maintain current immunizations and be physically and behaviorally capable of performing the duties of the job.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
