Duties

Help

As an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN), you will:

  • Provides advanced technical oversight and continued engineering support throughout the solutions lifecycle, with regard to implementation, maintenance, and decommissioning of hardware and software.  
  • Develops IT-related solutions to business problems through advancements and achievements in OIG information technology infrastructure. Problem solves existing IT infrastructure issues and develops and deploys new IT infrastructure solutions through all phases of the project management lifecycle.
  • Develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures for the ongoing management of IT infrastructure components. Provides comments and input into policies and projects that impact the OIG IT infrastructure.
  • Provides engineering approach to assure that new and modified VMware based virtualization and Windows platforms components integrate properly within the OIG's IT environment to ensure the compliance of government IT security mandates, such as NIST, FISMA, NIST 800-53.
  • Provides engineering approach and support to IT infrastructure, configuration baselines and hardware images.  Ensure that all platform components integrate properly within the OIG IT hybrid environment between cloud resources, on premise assets and user hardware.
  • Supports and maintains backup and restore procedures to maintain compliance with government regulations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Due to COVID-19, our agency is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Your employment with DOT OIG will begin remotely at your current residence. Once our normal business operations process begins you will receive further instructions on when to report to the office. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the agency’s telework policy.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE qualifications for the grade(s) at which you are requesting consideration. Applicants must meet qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

GS-12: To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal, military or private sector. Examples of specialized experience include:

    • Experience with Microsoft and VMware platforms in relation to systems administration and system engineering.
    • Experience developing IT-related solutions to problems related to IT infrastructure issues and deploying solutions to all phases of the project management cycle.
    • Experience with planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems.

For all positions, individuals must demonstrate they have experience in each of the four competencies listed below.
