The incumbent, a Research Biologist (Computational), is assigned to the Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research Unit, Ames, Iowa. Incumbent will work on tracing the origins and mechanisms of domestication across legume crops.
Investigate fundamental features of evolution of the large and diverse legume family, and the molecular origins of traits and morphological features within this group of plants.
Employ methods in computational biology and genetics, including: statistical methods of marker-trait association.
Employ methods for determining syntonic relationships and for calculating and representing pan-genome relationships, methods for inferring gene families and for inferring evolutionary events from large collections of gene families.

Qualifications
This position requires a Ph.D in plant genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Basic Requirements:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in (1) above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
