Duties

Help
  • Teaches graduate-level students in basic disciplines of data analytics in support of the certificate and Master of Science programs offered by the Air Force Institute of Technology data analytics program.
  • Will be responsible for communicating both theory and applications representing the current state of knowledge, with a particular focus on developing student capabilities for conducting data analytics to answer real world AF and DoD problems.
  • Develops courses and sequences of courses for programs accredited at the master?s level to meet the Air Force's dynamic educational needs. Contributes to curriculum development and plans student educational programs.
  • Plans and executes a research program in support of program. Coordinates directly with Air Force and Department of Defense (DoD) organizations to facilitate research process
  • Collaborates and works well with colleagues to accomplish individual and organizational research goals.
  • Presents research results to professional community through presentations at conferences and publications in archival journals. Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates student research programs.
  • Provides authoritative consultation Air Force and DoD organizations, as well as to other departments within AFIT
  • Participates in faculty governance by serving on department and school-level academic and administrative committees.
  • Mentors and manages the educational progress of students. Provides annual written feedback as prescribed by Air Force and AFIT guidance.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctoral degree in data analytics, computer science, operations research, information systems or closely related field is required. Education/experience in the application of data analytics principles across a wide range of organizational, operational, educational and other data intensive environments in order to bring a broad integrating approach to all core data analytics disciplines (data management, application of algorithms, applied statistics, coding, etc.) and related activities. Demonstrated knowledge of foundational and advanced topics in these fields of study is required. Professional experience in technical research or consulting activities in the broad field of data analytics is required. Ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters is required.

At the Assistant Professor Rank: For an initial appointment to the academic rank of Assistant Professor, applicants should have a strong potential for both teaching and research at the graduate level. Applicants should have a distinguished academic record and the background, commitment, and desire to teach graduate classes, conduct research, and publish.

At the Associate Professor Rank: In addition to the criteria for an Assistant Professor, an initial appointment to the academic rank of Associate Professor must be based on convincing evidence that the individual has demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The candidate must have 5 years of significant professional experience after having earned the doctoral degree. This will normally include no fewer than 3 years of full-time, university-level teaching at the Assistant Professor rank or higher. Alternatively, for those with fewer than 3 years of teaching experience, the requirement is 6 years of significant professional experience with research credentials normally expected of a full Professor.

At the Full Professor Rank: In addition to the criteria for an Associate Professor, an initial appointment to the academic rank of Professor must be based on convincing evidence that the faculty member has a sustained record of excellence in teaching, has produced a significant body of scholarship that is recognized nationally or internationally, and has demonstrated leadership in service to the discipline. The candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of significant professional experience after having earned the doctoral degree. This will normally include no fewer than 6 years of full-time, university-level teaching with a minimum of 3 years at the Associate Professor rank or higher. Alternatively, for those with fewer than 6 years of teaching experience, the requirement is 10 years of significant professional experience with research credentials substantially more than those normally expected of a full Professor.


Applicants will be assessed based on education, evidence of teaching effectiveness, quality of scholarship, and demonstrated service to educational institutions and the discipline commensurate with years in the discipline.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.
