Travel Required
75% or less - Conduct fieldwork in remote Alaskan settings that may result in travel away from the duty station for periods of more than 15 days per month. Access remote sites with the use of a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft. Will travel via raft, canoe, and/or boat.

Qualifications

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience in archeology fieldwork at or equivalent to the GS-04 level. "Archeology fieldwork" is defined as, under supervision, surveying for and/or excavating archaeological resources, and recording the results of such survey or excavation using appropriate data collection methods.

Education: Have successfully completed four (4) years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in archeology, or anthropology with an archeology focus, or related field of study.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety.
Work Environment: During fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals.
