Duties

  • Please note, during the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Agency is operating in a maximum telework posture for all telework ready employees occupying a telework eligible position.
  • If selected at the GS-11 level, the below responsibilities will be performed in a developmental capacity.
  • Reviews test plan information, previous test data (as applicable) and evaluate the technical drawings, specifications or other documents to understand the characteristic parameters of the features to be verified.
  • Utilizes automated test equipment (ATE) requiring complex test equipment setup and programming and traditional hand-held test equipment.
  • Performs dimensional, materials, and hydrostatic testing on various NSNs that can have unique requirements based on information contained in the technical data packages.
  • Communicates test failures with customers, explaining results obtained and procedures used, and interpreting specification requirements, as appropriate.
  • Utilizes the various software, such as Open DMIS, Virtual DMIS, Metlogix M3 that is installed on each piece of ATE.

Qualifications

To qualify for an Engineering Technician (Mechanical), your resume and supporting documentation must support:

A. Specialized Experience:
GS12 - One year of specialized experience that equips you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.
Creditable/comparable GS-11 specialized experience includes: Resolving conflicts with customers regarding test methods, procedures, and interpretations of results. Serving as project manager on engineering/testing dimensional projects. Performing extensive design, manufacturing, and cost analysis.

GS11 - For current and former Federal civilian service employees, to qualify for the GS-11 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. For all other applicants, to qualify for the GS-11 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-10 grade level or equivalent in the military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.
Creditable/comparable GS-10 specialized experience includes: Analyzing complex technical engineering problems. Reviewing and interpreting complex technical data packages. Is familiar with test and evaluation equipment used to inspect mechanical components.
Creditable/comparable GS-09 specialized experience includes: Analyzing technical engineering problems. Interpreting technical data packages. Testing and evaluating a variety of mechanical components.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
