Duties

Help
  • Responsible for the delivery of a wide range of installation youth fitness, health, and outreach programs in multiple CYS settings. Develops and maintains and partnerships with schools and community organizations.
  • Within an existing curriculum, develops and implements lesson plans and appropriate environments that incorporate a broad range of fitness and health activities for early childhood, school age, and youth program participants.
  • Assists in training coaches using the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) guidelines. Provides assistance in planning practices to warm up/cool down techniques, injury prevention, proper use of materials and equipment.
  • Shares expertise in the operation of age-appropriate exercises and skills development for children and youth.
  • Helps inspect facilities/programs to ensure compliance with applicable standards and makes recommendations for improvements. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities as appropriate.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older at time of appointment or placement into the position.
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/physical/background requirements for this position.
  • Must have current health assessment which documents good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations in accordance with current Army and DoD policy including annual influenza vaccinations.
  • A one year probationary period may be required (either initially or upon conversion, if applicable).
  • Successful completion of annual training requirements within the prescribed time frame and demonstrated on the job competence is required.
  • May be subject to an irregular hours, evening and or weekends.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) Check.
  • Complete and signed DA 3433 is required prior to entrance on duty.
  • Must obtain/maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.
  • Must currently possess or have the ability to obtain (within six months of employment) a fitness certification from a nationally recognized organization.
  • Pursuant to EO 14043, all Federal employees, regardless of duty location or work arrangement, must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by November 22, 2021, or before entrance on duty if after November 22, subject to exceptions as required by law.
  • If selected, the agency will provide information regarding what documentation is needed and how to request any legally required exceptions from this requirement.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or higher in exercise physiology, exercise Science, kinesiology, physical education, or other fitness-related disciplines

OR

All of the following equivalent in scope and complexity to the next lower grade level:
1. Experience in the application of fitness principles, concepts, and techniques gained through the delivery of a
comprehensive group fitness program.
2. Experience or education demonstrating the knowledge of basic health and nutrition concepts.
3. Experience training coaches or other professionals (i.e., teachers, caregivers, fitness instructors) in the proper application of sports or fitness techniques.

Highly Qualifying: In addition to the above, highly qualified candidates will possess experience in the planning, evaluation, or delivery of a fitness program or curriculum specifically for children or youth; or at least 12 semester hours in college coursework directly related to children or youth (i.e., PE for children, motor skills development, childhood development, early/elementary/secondary education, health/nutrition for children, child/adolescent psychology, etc.) AND a fitness certification from a nationally recognized organization.
