About the Position: Serve as a senior park ranger at a large multiple-use lake office, performing various functions in the parks and natural resources, shoreline management, and lease administration.
Yes—Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances MAY BE authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
Provide guidance and direction to park ranger team and other team members in work relating to recreation, natural resource management, shoreline management and real estate activities.
Direct patrol activities to ensure public compliance with rules and regulations governing the protection of government property.
Develop programs and procedures for the proper functioning of all assigned areas of lake office activities.
Initiate and promote cooperation and communication with local interest groups and visitors to solicit partnerships and inform and educate lake users on the project's activities, policies, and procedures.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Valid, State-issued Driver's License is required prior to appointment.

Will be assigned to work weekends and holidays.
This position may require you to obtain and maintain the following Corps of Engineers licenses/certifications associated with the position such as: motorboat license, CPR, etc.
You may be required to wear a uniform per district policy.
You may be working in construction areas or areas of rugged topography and thick vegetation. Contact with poison ivy, ticks mosquitoes are a common field occurrence.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirement for Natural Resources Specialist (Ranger):
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes overseeing all aspects of conservation, environmental, natural resource and recreation management; assesses the effectiveness of resources and activities related to soil conservation, water quality, resource management, recreation management and visitor safety; planning and implementation of programs to manage natural, cultural and physical resources; administering a shoreline management program; and participating in flood control activities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
