The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US Congress to serve as America’s national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educate Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as international audiences. The Museum has three areas of expertise: Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and genocide prevention.

Duties include:

Provides detailed technical support to processing archivists to prepare archival, primarily paper, collections for digital imaging and inclusion into the Digital Asset Management System.

Review materials and related information in finding aids prior to digitization and checks materials after photo-imaging to ensure that materials remain in the same organization and order.

Works with Digital Access Division and Collections Management branch staff to ensure that materials are prepared for digitization according to appropriate guidelines.

Ensures that cataloging and other metadata is attached to correct digitized records for new collections, accretions, and unified collections.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education:  One full year of graduate level education related to the position.

OR

Superior Academic Achievement:  A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA). SAA is based on a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0; class standing in the upper third of graduating class; or election to membership in a national scholastic honor society in a related field of study.

OR

Combination of graduate level education and experience.  

OR

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You qualify for the GS-7 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-5 (or equivalent) grade level in the Federal government, performing the following duties:

A. Arranging of archival and manuscript collections in preparation for digitization

B. Managing catalog database records

C. Reviewing materials and related information in finding aids prior to digitization

D. Identifying and prioritizing collections to be digitized.
