Duties

Help
  • This is being announced at multiple grade levels. Duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-04/05/06 grade levels. At the full performance, GS-07, the incumbent will:
  • Receive and evaluate 911 emergency calls to identify nature of emergency and level of response.
  • Dispatch emergency response units, such as police, fire and emergency medical personnel and equipment.
  • Maintain an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.
  • Provide emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using emergency medical dispatch system.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify at the GS-04 grade level: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as,utilizing personal computer and multi-lined telephone.

Education:
Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.

To qualify at the GS-05 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience using a computer keyboard to operate a variety of computer software and receiving dispatch calls. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

To qualify at the GS-06 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience receiving and evaluating emergency calls; and questioning callers to determine problem/nature of call to dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

To qualify at the GS-07 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience receiving and evaluating 911 calls; determine problem/nature of call in order to dispatch appropriate emergency personnel and equipment; and providing basic instructions prior to arrival of responders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/ level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions above at the GS-04 and GS-05 level only.

About the Location: Fort Greely is a remote location that is located in the Delta Junction commuting area. It's located 100 miles southeast of Fairbanks and 365 miles northeast of Anchorage. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area to include fish, bear, moose and caribou. Winter delivers snow and ice conditions October through April with average temperatures of 8 to minus 19°F with extreme lows of minus 50 plus; summer temperatures rise into the 70s and 80s with up to 22 hours of daylight.
