Duties

Help
  • You will implement public relations campaigns for a range of library programs (i.e., story time, school age programs, reading programs and book clubs.)
  • You will catalog library media using a machine-readable cataloging system (i.e., Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Library or Congress Subject Heading, and Dewey decimal classification system.)
  • You will create and implement adult programming for all adult reading program, book clubs, and video entertainment and special interest programs.
  • You will establish long and short-range goals for library services using the latest computer retrieval techniques as applied to library functions.
  • You will attend training courses and workshops in order to provide regularly scheduled orientation and user training sessions.
  • You will attend professional meetings and workshops to remain current in information technology, library services and product trends.
  • You will prepare policy manuals and communicate policies to library staff and workforce.
  • You will coordinate Interlibrary Loan (ILL) procedures to ensure the efficient use of loaned resources.
  • You will promote library programs to motivate clientele to fully utilize programs and services.
  • You will participate in the evaluation of the collection to determine material needs.
  • You will design library brochures to market the full range of library programs and services.
  • You will represent the organization in working groups, planning meetings, and conference to provide information regarding the library and its operations.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting in developing and marketing a full range of library programs and services and assisting in setting short term goals for programming paraprofessionals.

Education

All applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:.

A. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree;

OR

B. A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.

In addition to the basic education requirement applicants can qualify for the position based on the following education:

Successfully completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education.

OR

Successfully completed a master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., related to the position.

OR

Have a combination of specialized experience and education that equates to one year of experience.
