This position is being filled using Policy Memorandum #36, ERDC Policy on Hiring Engineers and Scientists Using Direct Hire Authority (DHA) Under Section 1108, 2009 Defense Authorization Act.
The purpose of this ECHO Fellowship opportunity is to research advancements, outcomes, and opportunities for transitioning US Coastal Research Program (USCRP) academic research into practice.
Present research to technical and non-technical audiences.
Document research findings, scientific advancements, and benefits to coastal communities.
Determine and analyze metrics on the number of students trained, follow-on studies, and number of students seeking Federal employment following project completion.
Develop a journal paper documenting findings, recommendations, and communication products.
Assist with research studies addressing coastal research needs in several priority areas including long-term and short-term nearshore coastal processes.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
This is a Modified Term position scheduled to last 1 Year. A modified term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
Appointment to this position may lead to a subsequent noncompetitive conversion to a permanent appointment.
Term employment is subject to a one year trial period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the basic education requirements described below. Preferred Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Preferred Experience: The successful candidate should have a strong background in nearshore coastal processes and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Areas of Ph.D: The successful candidate should have a Ph.D demonstrating a strong background in nearshore coastal processes to include Coastal Engineering, Marine Sciences, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, Geography, or related fields.
This type of research is performed by those who have backgrounds for the occupations stated above. The final classification of the position will be made by the Human Resources Office.
