Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Information Technology (IT) Auditor, GS-0511-14, you will perform the following major duties:

  • Provides supervision, direction, and general oversight to all phases of the technical and administrative operations of division or unit staff, which include IT auditors IT specialists and other professional and administrative staff.
  • Plans, assigns, and manages the work of the division or unit; sets goals; establishes timelines; and determines scope and parameters.
  • Ensures adequacy and compliance of staff's performance and completed work products with approved audit plans, Office of AIE policies and operating procedures, Government Auditing Standards, and Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) Quality Standards for Inspection and Evaluation.
  • Researches, evaluates, and analyzes Federal laws, Presidential, DHS, and OMB directives as well as Department and OIG policies, directives, procedures, and industry best practices related to IT security.
  • Directs the development of and prepares IT audit guides for effectively and efficiently accomplishing the objectives of individual audits, inspections, evaluations, special studies, and vulnerability analysis of Department IT security management.

  • Time-in-grade requirement - Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
  • Auditors in the Office of Inspector General are subject to stringent restrictions on interest in, or ownership of, Federal lands and energy resources. An annual conflict of interest statement is required.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.


Minimum Qualifications GS-14 :

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing all of the following:

  • Planning, leading, and conducting audits, inspections, and/or evaluations of information technology (IT) systems, management, operations, and related processes;
  • Preparing authoritative, technical reports on findings; AND
  • Advising high-level officials on audit work and recommendations for mitigating IT security vulnerabilities.

Education

You must meet the Basic Education Requirement for positions in the Auditor series

  1. Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:

    1. A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
    2. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.
