Typical duties of this position include:

  • Planning, coordinating, and implementing activities for assigned research programs.
  • Reviewing data and progress reports, and implementing corrective actions needed to achieve adequate research progress.
  • Participating in the development of Program Announcements, Requests for Applications, and Requests for Proposals in areas of research.
  • Planning and executing analytic research projects and researching the quality of methodologies and measures pertinent to the assessment and summarization of the health status of Americans.
  • Monitoring the status of project applications and awards from peer review through post-award administration and produces documents and responses to requests for information required.
  • Coordinating with investigators, organizations and other government agencies engaged in assigned research activities and related fields.
  • Identifying inadequacies and inconsistencies in data and informing higher-level specialists about data issues.
  • Providing technical assistance to lower graded professionals on the use of complex statistical and epidemiologic techniques.
  • Serving as a technical expert with respect to various phases of statistical interpretation relating to topics under consideration.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Health Specialist, GS-0601, position you must have successfully completed a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).

In addition, in order to qualify for a Health Specialist, 0601, at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Providing project management and analytical support for the implementation of biomedical research programs; reviewing data and implementing actions needed to facilitate research progress; tracking, summarizing, and reporting the status of an area of biomedical research and presenting outcomes to a variety of stakeholders.

You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
